Vitamin and minerals are essential nutrients that your body needs to work properly. Most people manage to get these essential nutrients by eating a balanced diet, however, some people need supplements to help them get those extra nutrients. However, be aware that taking too many or taking them for too long can have an effect on your health. There are 2 different types of Vitamins, fat-soluble & water-soluble, the fat-soluble vitamins are vitamin A, D, E & K and the water-soluble vitamins are C, B and folic acid.

Fat-soluble vitamins are mainly found in fatty foods, such as butter, lard, vegetable oils, liver and oily fish. Even though your body needs this vitamin to work properly, that doesn't mean you need to eat these types of food. Your body stores fat-soluble vitamins in your liver and fatty tissues for when you need them the most. If you have too many fat-soluble vitamins in your body, it can be harmful. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored within your body, so you need to have them on a regular basis. If you have more water-soluble vitamins that your body needs, then your body gets rid of them when you urinate. Water-soluble vitamins are most commonly found in fruit, vegetables and grains.

Minerals help your body by building strong bones & teeth, controlling fluids inside and outside of cells and turning the food that you eat into energy. Minerals are often found in foods such as meat, cereals, bread, fish, milk, fruit, vegetables and nuts. The most essential and most common minerals are calcium and iron, although there are many other types that are part of a healthy diet.
